The Forensics Committee provides information gathering, policy analysis, and best practice dissemination for the treatment by the community mental health system of mentally ill individuals identified in forensic settings.

The Committee has worked in the following areas:

  • Gathering information in a Jail Mental Health Services survey, and providing analysis and review of that information.
  • Representing CMHDA in joint training with law enforcement for jail suicide prevention, and in state oversight of the Mentally Ill Offender Crime Reduction Grant program.
  • Providing policy support to legislative and funding efforts, including more appropriate funding for WIC Section 5008(h)(1)(b) conservatorships and involuntary care proposals.
  • Providing training and support for counties in the implementation of services to persons identified in forensic settings.
