MHSA Community Services and Supports: Housing Program
The purpose of this program is to provide funding to finance the capital costs
that are associated with the development, acquisition, construction, and/or
rehabilitation of permanent supportive housing for individuals with mental
illness and their families. Funding will also be made available for capitalized
operating subsidies. The target population for this program includes low-income
adults, or older adults with serious mental illness, and children with severe
emotional disorders and their families who, at the time of assessment for
housing services, meet the criteria for MHSA services in their county of
residence and are homeless or at risk for homelessness.
The following
housing types may be funded through this program:
- Apartment building
- Duplex, triplex, and fourplex
- Single-family home or condominium
Funding may be used for either Rental Housing Developments or Shared Housing
Developments. Developments may be for a single population, devoted solely
towards housing the MHSA Housing Program target population, or a “mixed
population” development.
